3, 5 and 10 lakh interior design in Bangalore: what each budget buys, room by room.
₹10 lakh buys a typical 2BHK or a lean but complete 3BHK in Bengaluru. A complete home starts at about ₹5.5 lakh for a lean 2BHK and ₹8 lakh for a lean 3BHK. Below that, you are doing part of the home. ₹3 lakh buys a typical laminate kitchen and one wardrobe. ₹5 lakh buys the kitchen, the wardrobes and paint in a 2BHK.
What 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 lakh buys in a Bangalore flat
Every figure here is the build: carpentry, finishes, painting, ceilings and electrical work. Appliances, curtains, the design fee and GST come on top. A 2BHK here is 650 to 950 sq ft of carpet area and a 3BHK is 1,000 to 1,400 sq ft.

Interiors for 1 or 2 lakh: one or two jobs done well
At ₹1 or 2 lakh, pick the room that bothers you most and do it properly. Spreading a lakh across the whole flat gets you a little of everything and nothing finished.

Interiors for 3 lakh: the kitchen and one wardrobe
₹3 lakh doesn't cover a whole home, in a 2BHK or a 3BHK. It covers the two pieces you use every day and that cost the most to redo. The rest of the flat can follow in a second stage.

5 lakh interior design for a 2BHK, and what it does in a 3BHK
₹5 lakh sits just under a lean 2BHK, which starts at about ₹5.5 lakh because it also covers the wiring and a ceiling in the living room. So in a 2BHK, ₹5 lakh gets close to a finished home. In a 3BHK it gets the storage done and leaves the rest for later.

If the 2BHK comes in at the lower end, the money left over goes on a gypsum ceiling in the living room, at ₹25,000 to 50,000. The TV unit, the shoe rack and most of the electrical changes wait. In a 3BHK, painting would add another ₹80,000 to 1.2 lakh, so it usually becomes the first job of the next stage. Two savings help at this budget: laminate on every shutter (we compare it in laminate vs acrylic), and sealed HDHMR for the kitchen boxes, which saves about ₹50,000 on an L-shaped kitchen over BWP plywood. How to choose between them is in HDHMR vs plywood.
10 lakh interior design: a typical 2BHK or a lean 3BHK
₹10 lakh is the first budget that finishes a whole home of either size. A typical 2BHK costs ₹8 to 11.5 lakh and a lean 3BHK ₹8 to 11 lakh. The same money goes further in the smaller flat.
An 800 sq ft 2BHK at the bottom of the typical rate, ₹1,200 per sq ft of carpet area, costs ₹9.6 lakh. A 1,200 sq ft 3BHK at the bottom of the lean rate, ₹800, costs the same. So ₹10 lakh works for both, but only with every choice made carefully. The next section shows the 3BHK line by line.

To bring it down further, drop the study desk, keep the builder's light fittings in the bedrooms and use a straight shoe rack without the pooja unit. That saves about ₹1 lakh. To move it up towards a typical build, the next lakh usually goes on ceilings in the bedrooms, at ₹12,000 to 30,000 a room (worked out in false ceiling cost in Bangalore), and on a veneer front for the main wardrobe (laminate vs veneer compares the two).

A laminate kitchen costs about ₹1,200 to 2,200 per sq ft of cabinet front, so the size of the kitchen sets the budget more than anything else. Under ₹1 lakh means a straight kitchen. Under ₹2 lakh means a small L.

- Hardware. Ebco soft-close hinges, channels and drawer systems do the job. On a lean kitchen, use channels for most drawers and keep one drawer system for the cutlery.
- Boxes. Sealed HDHMR for the dry runs and wall units costs less than BWP plywood. Keep BWP, or HDHMR sealed on every face and edge, at the sink.
- Shutters. Laminate takes the most knocks and costs the least. Tall units and lofts match the rest of the kitchen, and the insides of the cabinets can be plain laminate.

What is a normal budget for interior design?
For a mid-market flat in Bengaluru, a lean but complete build costs ₹800 to 1,100 per sq ft of carpet area and a typical one ₹1,200 to 1,600. Homes with veneer, acrylic or PU throughout, a quartz or stone countertop and more furniture made to order cost ₹1,600 to 2,500 or more. Multiply your carpet area by the band you want, or work it the other way: divide your budget by your carpet area. ₹10 lakh over 1,000 sq ft is ₹1,000 per sq ft, a lean build. ₹10 lakh over 700 sq ft is about ₹1,430, a typical one.
If your budget sits below the lean band for your flat, do it in stages and start with the kitchen and the wardrobes. We go through what stays and what goes on a tight budget in budget interior designers in Bangalore.
Questions people ask
Can a 3BHK be done in 10 lakh in Bangalore?
Yes, as a lean build in a flat of about 1,000 to 1,400 sq ft of carpet area. That covers a laminate kitchen, laminate wardrobes with lofts, painting, the wiring you need and a false ceiling in the living room. Bedroom ceilings, acrylic or PU finishes and loose furniture usually don't fit. Appliances, curtains, the design fee and GST are on top.
What does 5 lakh get for a 2BHK?
A laminate L-shaped kitchen, laminate wardrobes with lofts in both bedrooms and fresh paint, which comes to about ₹4 to 5 lakh. If it comes in at the lower end, the rest can go on a gypsum ceiling in the living room. A lean but complete 2BHK starts at about ₹5.5 lakh, so at ₹5 lakh the TV unit, the shoe rack and most of the electrical work wait.
Is 10 lakh enough for 2BHK interiors?
Yes. ₹10 lakh covers a typical 2BHK of 650 to 950 sq ft of carpet area: a laminate kitchen with better hardware, both wardrobes with lofts, false ceilings in the living room and a bedroom, a TV unit, painting and electrical work. Appliances, curtains, the design fee and GST are on top.
What is a normal budget for interior design?
In Bengaluru, a lean but complete build costs ₹800 to 1,100 per sq ft of carpet area and a typical one ₹1,200 to 1,600, before the design fee and GST. That puts a lean 2BHK at ₹5.5 to 8 lakh, a typical 2BHK at ₹8 to 11.5 lakh, a lean 3BHK at ₹8 to 11 lakh and a typical 3BHK at ₹12 to 17 lakh.
Is 3 lakh enough for home interiors?
For a whole home, no. ₹3 lakh buys a laminate kitchen and one wardrobe with a loft, in a 2BHK or a 3BHK, at about ₹2.5 to 3 lakh. It works well as a first stage: do the kitchen and the wardrobe you need now, and add the rest as the budget allows.
Can I get a modular kitchen under 2 lakh?
Yes. A small L-shaped kitchen in laminate, with base and wall units and no tall unit, costs about ₹1.1 to 2 lakh. Use Ebco hinges and channels in place of drawer systems, and sealed HDHMR for the dry runs. A full-size L-shaped laminate kitchen costs ₹1.8 to 3.5 lakh.
What should come first on a small budget?
The kitchen and the wardrobes. They usually take half the budget or more, and they are the hardest to redo. Painting comes next. A TV unit, loose furniture and bedroom ceilings can be added later, though a ceiling added later means some dust and a repaint.
How much does an interior designer charge on a 10 lakh budget?
Design-only fees in Bengaluru run from ₹50 to 250 per sq ft. On a 1,000 sq ft flat that is ₹50,000 to 2.5 lakh, on top of the build. Firms that build as well often show the design as free and recover it through a markup of 10 to 20% on materials and work. We break the fees down in interior designer charges per sq ft.
A small budget, spent once
On ₹5 or 10 lakh, one wardrobe made twice can take the money meant for the TV unit and the paint. We build your whole home at full size before anything is bought, every surface a real product, and you walk through it at the studio in Whitefield. You see whether the laminate kitchen and the plain wardrobes look right together, and a change takes minutes. Your contractor builds from drawings taken from the same home you walked. The fee is ₹100 per sq ft of carpet area, so an 800 sq ft 2BHK is ₹80,000, and it is the same design whether you build for ₹6 lakh or ₹50 lakh. See a finished studio home for the level of detail.
