False ceiling cost in Bangalore: the rate per sq ft, by material and by room.
A gypsum false ceiling in Bengaluru costs ₹75 to 150 per sq ft of ceiling area, plus ₹20 to 40 per sq ft for wiring and finishing. Each light point adds ₹150 to 400. So a plain ceiling in a 10x10 bedroom with four lights comes to about ₹10,000 to 21,000. Other materials, layers and cove lights change the number.
False ceiling cost per sq ft in Bangalore
False ceilings are typically priced per sq ft (per square foot) of ceiling area covered. A full ceiling covers about the same area as the floor of the room, so a 10x12 bedroom is about 120 sq ft. A border design covers only part of the ceiling, so it costs less at the same rate.

False ceiling cost by room: bedroom (10x10, 10x12, 12x12), living room and hall
What is the cost of a false ceiling? For one room, it is the area times the rate, plus wiring and finishing, plus the light points. Each row is a plain gypsum ceiling over the whole room, before the light fittings.
Typical Bengaluru rates, mid-2026.
Each total is the area at ₹75 to 150, plus ₹20 to 40 a sq ft for wiring and finishing, plus ₹150 to 400 for each light point. A 10x10 room, for example, is ₹7,500 to 15,000 for the ceiling, ₹2,000 to 4,000 for wiring and finishing and ₹600 to 1,600 for four lights.
For a whole 3BHK, add up the rooms. A 12x20 living and dining room and bedrooms of 12x12, 10x12 and 10x10 make 604 sq ft of ceiling and 25 light points, which comes to about ₹61,000 to 1.25 lakh. At mid-range rates that is close to a lakh, before the kitchen, the passage or any cove lights.
What moves the false ceiling design price
master bedroom · a two-level gypsum ceiling, the downlights around the fanGypsum or POP: the difference in cost
Gypsum usually costs a little more per sq ft than POP. POP saves a little on the rate, but it is wet work: it needs drying time between coats, so it holds up the painters and the carpenters for longer. Gypsum is dry work (frame, board, tape, putty, paint) and goes up faster. For a flat ceiling in the living room or bedrooms, gypsum is usually worth the difference. Keep POP for a curve or a moulding, and PVC for the bathrooms and the balcony. We compare the two on cracks, moisture and finish, room by room, in gypsum vs POP false ceiling.
A low cost false ceiling design: where it pays and where to skip
On a low budget, what we call a lean build, put the false ceiling in the living room only. That is the room where you want more than one tube light, and where beams and wiring show most. A 12x20 living and dining room costs about ₹24,000 to 50,000 in gypsum. A typical build adds ceilings in the bedrooms. We set out what fits in each budget, room by room, on budget interior designers in Bangalore.
- Keep the design simple. A flat ceiling with a few downlights costs the least per sq ft and looks calm. Save layers for one room, if any.
- Use a border. A border around the edge carries the lights and hides a beam, and covers only part of the ceiling, so the total is lower than a full ceiling at the same rate.
- Skip the bedrooms first. A bedroom with one good ceiling light and a wall light by the bed works fine without one. You can add it later, with some dust and a repaint.
Before you pay for a false ceiling
Ask these questions of every quote and get the answers on paper.
- Area. How is the ceiling area measured: the full ceiling, or only the parts with board? For a border design, ask for the sq ft of board, room by room.
- What the rate includes. Board, frame, jointing, putty, primer and paint? Or does painting come as a separate line later?
- Light points. How many in each room, and is the rate per point for the wiring only, or with the fitting?
- Cracks. Is there a written warranty on cracks at the joints, and for how long?
- AC and fans. Are the AC positions, the pipe routes and the fan hooks fixed before the frame goes up? Moving them afterwards means cutting the ceiling.
- Design first. Is the ceiling design decided, with the lights marked, before the electrician starts? Wiring done to a guess gets redone.

Questions people ask
What is the cost of a false ceiling for a 12x12 room?
A 12x12 room has 144 sq ft of ceiling. In gypsum that is ₹10,800 to 21,600 for the ceiling, ₹2,880 to 5,760 for wiring and finishing, and ₹900 to 2,400 for six light points: about ₹14,500 to 30,000 in all. A cove light or a second level costs more.
What is the price range for a 10x10 false ceiling?
About ₹10,000 to 21,000 for a plain gypsum ceiling with four light points. That is 100 sq ft at ₹75 to 150, plus ₹20 to 40 a sq ft for wiring and finishing, plus ₹150 to 400 for each light.
What is the price of a 10x12 false ceiling?
About ₹12,000 to 25,000 for a plain gypsum ceiling with five light points. That is 120 sq ft at ₹75 to 150, plus ₹2,400 to 4,800 for wiring and finishing, plus ₹750 to 2,000 for the lights.
Is a false ceiling worth it in a Bengaluru flat?
In the living room, usually yes: it hides the wiring for the lights you want and evens out beams. In bedrooms it is a choice, and on a tight budget it is the first thing to drop. A ceiling in every room of a 3BHK can pass a lakh, so put it where you spend your evenings.
Does a false ceiling reduce the room height?
Yes. It hangs below the slab by the depth of the frame plus whatever space the lights and any cove need, and a layered design drops further than a flat one. Ask for the drop in inches on the drawing, and check it against the beams, the AC and the top of your wardrobes before work starts.
Seen at full size, before anything is bought
A ceiling goes wrong at one moment: when the frame goes up before anyone has checked the lights, the fan and the AC against it. We build your whole home at full size before anything is bought, every surface a real product, and you walk through it at the studio in Whitefield. If the cove sits too low over the wardrobe, you see it there, and moving it takes a minute. The drawings your contractor builds from come out of the same home you walked.
