Interior designers in Bangalore, compared: chains, luxury studios and design-led independents.
Search for interior designers in Bengaluru and most of the lists you find are written by the firms on them. Here we make sense of those lists by sorting the firms into three kinds. The kind decides what you pay, who draws your home and who builds it. For each kind you'll find a rough cost for a 2BHK and a 3BHK, and what to check before you sign.
We describe each firm from its own website and don't score anyone. The costs are ranges from published price pages, cost guides and property forums, so treat them as estimates. Tomorrow Homes gets a section of its own, after the three kinds.
Who are the top 10 best interior designers in Bangalore?
There isn't a real top 10. Most top-10 lists in search results are written by a firm that puts itself first, or by a publisher listing the firms it knows. Nobody measures these firms against each other, and it would be hard to. A chain that fits out a flat from a catalogue in 45 days and a studio that spends a year on a villa are doing different jobs.
What you can compare is the kind of firm, and Bengaluru has largely three. The large chains sell a package: design, factory-made units and installation at one price. The luxury studios sell custom work, designed and built under one roof. The design-led independents sell the design on its own. Choose the kind first. Picking a firm within it is the smaller decision.
The largest chains: Livspace, HomeLane, Design Cafe, D'LIFE, Decorpot and Bonito
A chain is organised like a factory with a showroom in front. You meet a sales consultant at an experience centre, a designer draws the home from the chain's catalogue, the units are made in its own factory or a sub-contractor's, and an in-house or outside site team installs them. You pay one package price, and the design is part of it.
A full-home package usually means the kitchen, wardrobes, a TV unit, false ceiling and painting. Loose furniture, civil and electrical work are often outside it, and GST is added on top.

A chain fits a template from its catalogue into your home. Customisation, where it's offered at all, is usually priced very high.
- Check the sample against the quote. The room at the experience centre and the grade of board in your quote are not always the same.
- Check what is outside the package. Painting, false ceiling, electrical and loose furniture are the usual additions after the first figure.
- Check what gets built after sign-off. Ask to see the drawings the factory will be given.
The luxury studios: The KariGhars and Carafina
A luxury studio is generally organised around one founder and one workshop. Design and execution sit under the same roof. The furniture is made to their drawings, and the quote is a bill of quantities, item by item.

This kind suits a villa or a large flat, a high budget, and a family that values customisation and is willing to pay a premium for it. These studios are usually slower than the chains to finish the work.
- Check what the starting price buys. A "from" figure is the price of the studio's smallest job. Ask what your home would cost.
- Check the bill of quantities. Every item, its material, its hardware brand and its price, before signing.
- Check the founder's part. Who draws your home, and who visits site after the first meeting.
The design-led independents: The Studio by Nandita Manwani and Chattels Design
A design-led independent is small enough that the person who meets you draws your home. Here the design is what you pay for. You see it in 3D before you commit, and some studios sell it on its own so you can take the drawings to any contractor. Both of the studios below also build.

This kind suits a family that wants the design settled before the money goes, is happy to buy the products itself at the vendor's price, and will either hire the contractor or let the studio bring one. You manage more yourself, so the drawings have to be complete.
- Check what the fee buys. Drawings to the millimetre, a product list with brand and code, and how many rounds of change are inside it.
- Check how you see it first. A wide-angle render, a 3D walkthrough on a laptop, or the whole home at actual size.
- Check whether the studio earns on the products. Ask in those words. A fee-only studio has no reason to prefer one laminate over another.
Tomorrow Homes: the interior designer in Bangalore that lets you walk your home before it's built
Every firm above shows you your home on a screen, as a render or a 3D view: flattering pictures built from ideas, not from products you can actually buy. At Tomorrow Homes you put on a headset and stand inside your whole home at actual size, built from the exact products that will go into it. You open the wardrobes, check the gap beside the pillar and see the kitchen at 7 pm, months before a carpenter cuts a single board. No other firm anywhere lets you do that.

Stand inside
your home before it’s built.
Most of the money people lose on interiors goes on mistakes found after work has started. A wardrobe made as if the pillar wasn't there cost one Whitefield family lakhs. Kitchen cabinets that arrived six inches short pushed back a griha pravesh. A bedroom colour chosen from a two-inch swatch was lived with for ten years. Anyone standing in those rooms would have seen each one coming. With us, you stand in the room before anything is made, while fixing it is still free.
- Save money. Mistakes get fixed in the model, where they cost nothing, instead of on site.
- Save time. Decisions that usually drag on for weeks get made in one sitting, because the whole family sees the same room at the same time.
- Save the headache. Your home is built from complete drawings and an exact product list, so there's far less to argue about once work begins.

How much does an interior designer charge in Bangalore?
It depends on the kind. Chains and luxury studios include the design in the price of the home, so only the independents quote a separate fee. For the same two flats:

Our fee is on carpet area. The figure on your sale agreement is usually super built-up, and carpet area is about 70 to 80% of it. Our page on interior designers in Bangalore explains how we work and what it costs.
Famous interior designers in Bangalore: what the word means
The lists of "famous" or "leading" interior designers in Bengaluru come from two places: the firms' own pages, where the firm writing the list is at the top of it, and the magazines, which mostly list architects who do villas and rarely take a 1,200 sq ft flat. Neither measures anything you can check. Usually a firm is "famous" because it has an advertising budget and a showroom.
A better test takes an hour. Stand inside a finished home the firm designed, with the wardrobes open. Read its Google reviews, which the firm doesn't choose. Then ask for one drawing from a finished project and see whether a contractor could build from it. A wardrobe built as if the pillar beside it wasn't there is what happens when that drawing is missing.
Questions people ask
Is an independent designer cheaper than a chain in Bengaluru?
The fee is smaller, but it covers only the design. Materials and the contractor come on top. An independent charges ₹150 to 250 per sq ft for the design, roughly ₹1 to 2 lakh for a 2BHK, and you then buy materials and pay a contractor for execution. A chain quotes ₹10 to 20 lakh for a 2BHK with the design inside. Add up the independent route and the totals often land a bit lower than the package. What changes is who chooses the products, and whether anyone earns on them.
Do the chains charge a separate design fee?
Usually not. The largest chains include the designer's fee inside the package price, so you can't buy the design on its own. You're paying for units made in their factory and installed by their team. If you want to take the design elsewhere, most won't hand over drawings your own contractor can build from, so ask before you sign.
Which kind of firm should I choose for a 3BHK in Bengaluru?
Decide the budget first, then the kind. Under about ₹20 lakh all in, a chain package is the usual route, with finishes from the catalogue. Above ₹35 lakh with custom furniture, it is usually a luxury studio. If you want the design settled before the money goes, and to buy the products yourself at the vendor's price, choose a design-led studio, with a contractor you hire or one it brings. Whichever it is, see a finished home from the inside before signing.
